Information

Get to know Samos

This small village in the province of Lugo is a must on the road to Santiago, where you can find one of the most important religious centers of Galicia.

The local economy of the village is based mainly on agriculture and livestock for being in a very fertile valley near the Pedrafita mountains, but in recent years the hospitality sector has grown a lot thanks to the Camino de Santiago.

How to get there

To get to Samos you can choose to travel to Lugo by bus or train and from there take the LU-546 to Sarria and here link with LU-633 road to Samos. From Ponferrada the easiest way is to take the A-6 highway to Pedrafita do Cebreiro and then take the LU-633 road again. From Ourense the ideal is to go to Monforte de Lemos by the national N-120 and take the road LU 546 and there again take the LU 633.

To get there by public transport you have to do it from Sarria, but the frequency with which buses pass is very low. The most subtle option is to go by cab.

Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Samos is closely linked to the land and the environment. The vegetables planted in their orchards and a lot of meat such as pork or sheep are used for the preparation of the most exquisite dishes of the region. Often, this meat is enriched with the fruits of the oak and chestnut trees. Other very famous dishes at provincial level are the empanada, the octopus, the stew and the filloas of milk or blood.
