The biggest challenge of this stage lies in the ascent to the Alto de Mostelares, from
which we can already hear the murmur of the Pisuerga, foreshadowing the proximity of
the next big city: Palencia. But before arriving there, we will still make a stop in Frómista,
a town closely linked to the Camino and therefore home to an extensive historical
heritage, with the church of San Martín, one of the best preserved and complete
Romanesque temples in Europe, standing out.
Recommendation Pilgrim
The only problem that you will have in this stage is the absence of shades. You should drink
frequently and avoid walking in the hottest hours. You should keep calm while you are ascending Alto
de Mostelares.

Itinerary
Km 0 ‧ Castrojeriz
We leave Castrojeriz along the Calle Real de Poniente, cross two local roads and take a
dirt track straight ahead. After almost two kilometres we come across the Odra River; we
cross it over a pontoon and tackle the climb to the Alto de Mostelares. From here, we
enjoy a wide panoramic view. We descend along a stony track.
The descent, steep at the
start, becomes progressively gentler. After a little over a kilometre and a half, we reach
the turn-off to Itero del Castillo, along a path on the right. We continue straight on;
further on we pass by the Fuente del Piojo fountain, with a shady rest area.
A few metres from the chapel we cross the river Pisuerga over the Fitero Bridge, leaving
the province of Burgos and entering the province of Palencia. After the bridge we turn off
to the right onto a dirt track.
Km 10,8 ‧ Itero de la Vega
We leave Itero de la Vega along Santa Ana street, and shortly after we cross a local road.
We follow a gently ascending farm track, and from the top of the hill we can already see
Boadilla. We follow the same dirt track, now descending slightly.
Km 19 ‧ Boadilla del Camino
On leaving Boadilla we turn left onto a track until we come to the Canal de Castilla, an
important civil engineering work from the 18th century, which was used both to transport
goods and to distribute irrigation water. We follow its service road and, at Frómista, we
cross the canal through a lock.
