We say goodbye to the region of Navarre to enter La Rioja, home of what are considered
to be the best wines in the country. It will not be easy, we will have to give our best to
overcome the continuous steep slopes, but we already have the city of Logroño and its
mighty river Ebro, the first great river of the Camino, within reach.
Recommendation Pilgrim
This is not a large stage but you have to take into account that it has many ups and downs, gravel
and dust. You have to pay attention and be careful to avoid accidents.
For cyclists it is a complicated stage, we recommend them go through the national road to Viana that
has no traffic. From Viana to Logroño the road is easier and they will be able to it with no
problems.
For people with reduced mobility, this route is complicated and we recommend them it. We recommend
the go through the N-111 all the stage.

Itinerary
Km 0 ‧ Los Arcos
From the Plaza Santa María we cross the Portal de Castilla and the bridge over the river
Odrón. We pass next to the cemetery and continue straight on along a dirt track. We
continue parallel to the NA-1110 road, which we keep to the left. After approximately
three and a half kilometres we leave the track and turn right. We come to the Carretera
de Sansol. Follow the road on the left until you reach Sansol.
On leaving Sansol we cross the NA-1110 road, go down a path, go under a road by a
subway and walk over the river Linares by a bridge, to head towards Torres del Río.
Km 7,6 ‧ Torres del Río
We leave the village and continue along tracks and paths in a continuous up and down.
We cross the NA-1110 road and after almost three kilometres we come to the Ermita de la
Virgen del Poyo hermitage. We come out onto the road again, follow it around a bend and
take a path on the right. A little further on we cross another road and begin the descent to
the Mataburros ravine. After almost four kilometres we cross the NA-1110 road. We round
a bend in the road and immediately we are parallel to it, advancing towards Viana, a town
that we can see in the background, on a hill.
Km 18 ‧ Viana
The route goes through the Old Town and descends along the streets of San Felices and
Fuente Vieja. On leaving Viana we cross the NA-7220 road and, shortly afterwards, the
national road N-111. After about three kilometres we see the Ermita de la Virgen de las
Cuevas (Chapel of the Virgin of the Caves).
We take a dirt track on the right and cross
the N-111 over a raised footbridge. Parallel to this we walk along a pleasant wooded
stretch and, after passing a paper factory, we turn left to cross the connecting lanes
between the N-111 and the A-13 dual carriageway via three subways.
At this point we
leave Navarre to enter the Autonomous Community of La Rioja. On tarmac tracks we
climb Monte Cantabria. Then, on the descent to the capital of La Rioja. At the end of the
long descent we enter Logroño via the Puente de Piedra (Stone Bridge) over the River
Ebro, the most important river on the French Route.
