Today we will change the river Arga for the Sadar, and the oak and beech trees for cereal
fields. We will set off from Pamplona with the aim of reaching the summit of Alto del
Perdón, located at an altitude of just over seven hundred and fifty metres. This is not a
long stage, but it does require a certain amount of temperance, as the steep climbs and
slippery descents will test our physical endurance.
Recommendation Pilgrim
If you are lucky the wind will be your best friend during this stages. You should pay attention
because in this stage there are many false indications that will lead you to a commercial area.
Bear in mind that if you want to visit the Ermita de Eunate hermitage you should turn aside in
Muruzábal or in Obanos, from this village there are just two kilometres (1 miles) to Eunate. If you
have doubts about how to get there you can ask local people, they will help you.
If you are doing the way by bike we don’t recommend you descend Alto del Pedrón by bike; we recommend
you go through the N-111 road, we also recommend this route reduced mobility people, to avoid
possible accidents due to a lot of rocks that you could find there. The road route is not easy due
to the traffic, but it would be better than the other one. Be careful with all the vehicles that you
will find.

Itinerary
Km 0 ‧ Pamplona
From the Town Hall square we follow Calle San Saturnino and Calle Mayor, cross the
Ciudadela park, continue along Calle Fuente del Hierro and leave Pamplona through the
gardens of the University of Navarre campus, arriving at the medieval bridge of Azella,
over the river Sadar. Go over the bridge and take a pedestrian path parallel to the road to
Cizur Menor. Ascending gently, we cross the river Elorz, the railway line and the AP-15
motorway successively over various bridges until we reach Cizur Menor.
On leaving Cizur Menor we walk through a small park and follow Calle Santiago. We then
continue along tracks between cereal fields. We cross the NA-6004 road. After about 4
kilometres we turn off to Guenduláin. We follow the same track until we reach
Zariquiegui.
Km 4,9 ‧ Cizur Menor
On leaving Cizur Menor we walk through a small park and follow Calle Santiago. We then
continue along tracks between cereal fields. We cross the NA-6004 road. After about 4
kilometres we turn off to Guenduláin. We follow the same track until we reach
Zariquiegui.
Km 11 ‧ Zariquiegui
In a gradual ascent we reach the Alto del Perdón in about forty minutes. Shortly before,
we pass by the Fuente de la Reniega, which, according to one of the many legends of the
Camino, the devil used to tempt pilgrims with water from this fountain in exchange for
recanting their faith.
Km 13,3 ‧ Alto del Perdón
We start the descent, which is very steep in its first stretch, on a loose stone track. The
descent is more comfortable.
Km 16,8 ‧ Uterga
We continue on, first along a farm track and then along a rural path
Km 19,5 ‧ Muruzábal
In the middle of the village of Muruzábal we find, well signposted, the turn-off to the
magnificent Romanesque chapel of Santa María de Eunate, which is 2.4 km away. We can
choose to visit it and then go directly from the hermitage to Óbanos or even to Puente la
Reina. If we do not take the detour to Eunate, we continue to Óbanos along a dirt track
on the right-hand side of the road.
Km 21,3 ‧ Óbanos
We go down to the NA-6064 provincial road, cross it and come out onto the old national
road at the height of the Jakue hotel, at the entrance to Puente la Reina.
