You will start this eighth stage in Villafranca de los Barros towards Vereda de la Mina,
once you have crossed a stream called Bonhabal you will have done half of the stage. Once
you get here you have to decide if you want to go through Almendralejo or go straight
forward to Torremejía. Esta localidad fue la elegida por Camilo José Cela para ambientar su
novela La familia de Pascual Duarte.
Recommendation Pilgrim
It is a long stage but you have to take into account that is very easy and flat, the only
complicated thing could be cross the stream called Bonhabal. There are not enough services
so you should take everything you need before start the stage.
A pesar de existir la opción de continuar por la nacional desde Almendralejo, recomendamos
enlazar con el trazado oficial, tan sólo un par de kilómetros más largo pero mucho más
ameno y seguro. This stage is easy for everyone.

Itinerary
Km 0 – Inicio
You will leave Villafranca from the Plaza Corazón de Jesús square and then through the
Calle Calvario street, where you will see the Ermita de la Coronada hermitage. Si en el
día de ayer no la hemos visitado bien merece la pena detenerse un momento. Then you will
have to continue through the Calle de San Ignacio street and after less than one
kilometres you will have to get to the road, and you will have to cross it and continue
through a path surrounded by trees. Then you will get to a stream called Bonhabal after a
turn away to the left. Once you have crossed the stream, and after walk for an hour you
will get to a crossing where you will have two possibilities:
1. Continue straight forward to Torremejía through the national road, this route has
approximately 10 kilometres.
2. The other option is to go to the left to go to Almendralejo, where many Spanish writers
such as José de Espronceda and Carolina Coronado. Moreover you can taste some wonderful
wines. Las tierras de toda esta zona, muy fértiles y con un relieve plano, favorecieron la
retención de agua de las vides, dotando a sus vinos de un sabor muy especial. After
visiting all the interesting places and monuments in this village you can return to the
other route. You will continue walking through paths full of trees and wine yards. You
will have to cross the train rails just at the entrance of Torremejía through an
underpass.
