The municipality of Castilblanco de los Arroyos is located on the ancient Roman route known as the Silver Route. Since ancient times it has been of great importance for being an obligatory passage and, at present, it is still alive thanks to the fact that many pilgrims continue to travel its route to reach Santiago and worship the Apostle.
This town has always served people who stopped to stay overnight and then continue their journey, so it is perfectly equipped with the services that the pilgrim may need.

How to get there
The easiest way to reach Castilblanco de los Arroyos is from Seville, thanks to the A-8002 highway, but it is also possible from other points such as from Cordoba by the A-4, from Madrid by the A-5 and A-66 or from Merida by the E-803 road, which will allow us to reach Castilblanco, among others.
By bus the main way is to take a line in Seville, there are daily lines with a high frequency. There are also lines that communicate the north of the peninsula with Seville and have stops in different towns that are on the route of the A-66 highway.

What to see
Casa de la Sierra
The Casa de la Sierra was built in 1923 with a strong regionalist character. Currently owned by the city council and its main function is to house the “Occupational Center for the Disabled” and the “House Museum”, also called the municipal Ethnographic Museum. Numerous competitions, workshops and exhibitions are held throughout the year.

Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Escardiel
The morphology of this small hermitage is characterized by having two naves, housing in one of them a characteristic image of Nuestra Señora María de Escardiel, one of the oldest advocations of the entire province of Seville. It is made of wood and recently have been removed several elements of its base that were added over the years.

Ermita de San Benito Abad
Despite being somewhat distant from the municipality of Castilblanco de los Arroyos, it offers spectacular views of the entire Sierra Morena. Its origin is not known for certain but it is estimated that it could have been built throughout the twelfth century or early thirteenth century.
It has been built in the twelfth or early thirteenth century.
Outstanding from its interior is the Santo Benito Abad, a religious figure to whom numerous miracles are attributed.

Ermita parroquial del Divino Salvador
This simple Mudejar style temple consists of three parallel naves separated by semicircular arches. Both its interior and its facade have undergone numerous reforms over the years, especially in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It houses numerous objects of great artistic value, especially goldsmithery and some paintings and sculptures.

Monumento a Cervantes y a las Doncellas
This monument, made by sculptor Manuel Castaño Beza in honor of Miguel de Cervantes, is located in Castilblanco for a reason: it was here where the writer places part of the action of his novel “The Two Maidens”. Specifically, it is in Castilblanco where the inn is located where Teodosia confesses to her brother the dishonor that her beloved Marco Antonio has caused her by getting engaged to another lady.

Monumento al Cantero
Built by local stonemason Juan Carrero in 1986, this monument in honor of stone workers throughout the region, features a hexagonal base and a 16-sided cone-shaped trunk, with a height of 1.20 meters.

Monumento al Palmero
This monument is intended to pay tribute to the men and women who were dedicated to the work of the palm tree in Castilblanco, between the fifties and sixties. It is located at the entrance of this municipality, representing the image of a large palm tree and a donkey loaded with palm leaves, an animal frequently used throughout the area for loading and transport work.

Monumento al Pensionista
The elderly of Castilblanco de los Arroyos also have a monument in their honor, specifically since 1990. It was the sculptor José Lemus the one in charge of making this work, choosing to exhibit it in the Maestro Castaño square, right where the Pensioner’s Home of that locality is located.
