Way of Saint James from Tui

Route for Pilgrims

Day 1: Arrival at Tui

You can arrive in Tuy by your own or in case you want it, we can arrange your transfer from any airport or station you are. In case you make it with time , many relevant spots awaits to be visited. Bathed by Miño river, this medieval village stands out for being the home of one of the most impressive Cathedrals in Galicia: St Mary Cathedral located on the top of a hill. In addition, it is surrounded by the longest wall in Galicia and has a wide gastronomic offer, so starting the stage with stamina is totally guaranteed

Day 2: Stage Tui – Redondela

(29 km/18 miles)

If you commence the Way of St James following the Portuguese route and if your starting point is Tui, you will avoid crossing the border , so from this moment on you only have one duty: enjoying what Galicia can offer to the fullest.

In this stage we walk down the Miño River. We have to remark the beauty of the landscapes along the riverside . Following this path we will reach a vineyard that will lead us to a deep forest. The bad part is that before arriving those idyllic locations we must walk first by a road and an industrial area However an alternative route to avoid this track is available. The price to pay is an extra 500 m , but it is worth just to avoid the danger of the road and the non gratifying views of the industrial area.

We keep on walking down and the reward is still admiring the beautiful scenery along the way to Redondela.

Day 3: Redondela – Pontevedra Stage

19 km

In the first part of this stage we must hike very close to Vigo’s estuary, but funny how we barely enjoy the landscapes. This is a very well signposted, short and gentle walk of just 19 km. The reason of finishing this short stage in Pontevedra is to appreciate all the attractions this city can offer. Here we can find the most important Historic Heritage in Galicia after Santiago de Compostela.

Day 4: Pontevedra – Caldas de Reis Stage

19 km

Before resuming the route towards Caldas de Reis, you must enjoy the wonderful city of Pontevedra. Its Old Town has a singular atmosphere difficult to find in any other routes along The Way of St. James. After leaving Pontevedra we will pay a visit to Virgen de la Peregrina Church, one of the most relevant local monuments. Now it is time to penetrate the villages and small towns located along this rural journey. To mainly avoid a national road in this stage, we will have to zigzag among the villages.

Day 5: Caldas de Reis – Padrón Stage

17 km

In this Stage we will head a very popular village, well-known both inside and outside Galicia .If you don’t know why, the reason are the peppers. They are pretty small, and can be eaten in a single mouthful, but the tricky part is that some of them are hot. Impossible to guess before you eat them. It’s like a Russian roulette. According to a local saying “The Peppers from Padron are some hot and others don’t “( Pimientos de Padrón, unos pican y otros no)

Day 6: Padrón – Santiago de Compostela Stage

22 km

After the breakfast eaten in your Padron Accommodation , you will face the last stage of this Portuguese Way: Santiago de Compostela. This is the longest part. It is about 22 km, however the walk will be amiable and easy to hike, specially because in our mind there will be only one thought: Arriving in Santiago as a reward for this adventure.

But before arriving, we will walk through dozen of villages and neighborhoods. The same as Santiago’s disciples did in order to carry his remains to his final resting place.

Day 7: Santiago de Compostela

Bed and Breakfast Day off to visit all the monuments that, besides the Cathedral, have made this town so special. In case you have some spare time, do not hesitate to stay a couple of days more to enjoy the Old Town to the fullest. You could taste both the ancient culture and the best local gastronomy. Altogether to offer the best to our pilgrims.

After breakfast our services will be finished.
