Today you will change the Nalón river for the Narcea river. You could find this river in
many Asturian villages. It goes through lovely valleys. You will have to start walking up
from San Julián de Villapañada to Fresno, then you will descend to La Doriga.

The begging of the stage will be a little bit complicated up to Nuestra Señora del Fresno.

Km 0 – Inicio
The starting point of today’s stage is the city hall of Grado. Then you will go through
the Plaza General Ponte square towards the national road that goes over the Avenida Flórez
Estrada avenue and that will lead you through the left through a neighborhood called de la
Cruz. You will cross some small villages to get to Quinta where you will cross the highway
to get to El Cascayal and El Valle where a yellow arrow will indicate you where the hostel
is located. In this point you will have to cross La Reguera and once you get to the
crossing you will have to go through the right to get to the Santuario de Nuestra Señora
del Fresno sanctuary; it is a temple from the 16 century that was restored many times
since the 18 century and it is one of the most visited in Asturias because it has a
wonderful location From here you can see the Monte Naranco mount and if there is a great
weather you will also see the Montes del Suave mounts and the highest part of Picos de
Europa. After this stop you will walk towards San Marcelo, accompanied by a wonderful
landscape. You will walk first through a path and then through an asphalted road to get to
the following village that belongs to Salas. Now you will walk to Doriga, going to the
left once you get to the roundabout. You will walk through a forest next to the Aroyo de
la Meredal stream. You will also cross the Iglesia de Santa Eulalia de Doriga church; a
Romanesque church from the 12 century. You will also see the Palacio de Doriga palace that
is from the 14 century. Then you will see a bar where you can have breakfast. Then you
will have to get to Veiguina where you will go through a path to the left and then through
a path that will lead you to the N-634. Then you will get to La Rodriga and to a bridge
over the Narcea river to get to Cornellana. Then you will have to cross a bridge to get to
the Monasterio de San Salvador monastery; this monastery is from the 11 century. Go
through Cornellana is a great option because it is the only village that has all the
needed services in this stage. To get to this village you will have to turn left and go
through the Avenida José María Caballero avenue.
After visiting the monastery you will have to go through the left to get to the SL-7, this
road will lead you to Sobrerriba, where you will cross the road to start the best part in
this stage the walking up to Alto de Santa Eulalia. You will walk through valleys and
rivers, a lovely landscape, you will breath fresh air coming from the mountain. Then you
will get to the road, in Llamas. You will have to go always straightforward to get to the
Nonaya river that is an affluent of the Narcea river. After the river you will have to
turn left to get to Quintana and to the Iglesia de Santiago de Villazón church. This small
village hides the remains of a Roman temple of the 13 century. You will have to continue
and you will cross a Fountain called Santiago. This area is very important for all the
pilgrims that walk to Santiago through Asturias. Then you will have to cross the river
through the mountain slopes.
The next village will be Casazorrina, to get here you will have to cross a bridge. You
will walk through the small streets of this villages and you will cross a bridge called
Devesa that will lead you to Mallecin, a small village that belongs to Salas. Before
getting to this village you will have to cross the dual carriageway through an underpass
and then cross the national road. You will have to cross the Avenida Llaniello avenue to
get to the Plaza de la Campa square and you will get to the hostel located in Salas; it is
a private hostel. If you want to stay in the public hostel you will have to cross the
avenue towards the river till get to Casa Pacita a place where you will get all the
information about the public hostel.
