What to see

Iglesia y Monasterio de São Miguel

The Monastery, founded in the 11th century, houses the church of São Miguel, located in the easternmost part of the municipality of Vilarinho, near the Vizela River. Said temple has a Romanesque style and presents a simple floor plan.

In its interior it is worth mentioning its portico formed by a semicircular arch that separates the nave and the head of the temple. This portico is composed of three archivolts, held by capitals ornamented with plant and animal motifs. In the upper part of the body that divides the nave there is a niche carved in stone that houses the image of San Miguel.

Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Vilarinho is very rich in local products and is quite similar to that of the rest of the region. Among its typical dishes are lampreia and trout, as well as Oporto-style tripe and rojões. These are pieces of lean pork meat fried in a pan. It also counts in its gastronomy with the sausages of Chaves and the typical Francesinha. On the other hand, the green wines and sweets, made for years, have a great culinary tradition among families.
