Km 0 – Inicio
You will start this adventure from the Iglesia de Santiago church located in the old city
of A Coruña because is one of the oldest monuments in the city. It was built in the 12
century and is near the Plaza de María Pita square. Then you will have to go through
Puerta Real towards the Avenida de la Marina avenue until getting to Méndez Núñez garden.
You will cross a huge obelisk devoted to Aureliano Linares Rivas. Then you will get to the
Calle Sánchez Bregua street and also to the Plaza de Ourense square. You will see the
fuente de Cuatro Caminos fountain and you will cross through the Avenida Linares Rivas
avenue and through the Calle Fernández Latorre street. This fountain is very famous
because it is the one where Deportivo de la Coruña fans celebrate all the trophies. You
will leave this square and you will walk through the Calle Marqués de Amboage street
towards the bus station. Once you get there you will have to continue straight to get to a
roundabout that will lead you to the Avenidad de Monelos avenue.
After crossing the road you will get to Eirís. In the next roundabout, you will have to
turn left to get again to the Avenidad de Monelos avenue and the get to the Avenida de
Montserrat avenue. Here the view is amazing, you will see Santa Cristina beach and the
seafront. A little bit after you will cross a weapons factory. You will continue on the
road leaving behind a supermarket called Alcampo before getting to Culleredo through the
Avenida Miguel González Garcés avenue. Then you will have to turn left through the Calle
das quintas street and after two crossings you will have to turn right through the Calle
de Jorge Guillén street to get to Fonteculler. You will have to cross the road to get to O
Burgo seafront that is surrounded by a garden. You will also cross a Roman bridge here in
O Burgo. After crossing a marker that indicates the remaining kilometers to get to
Santiago, you will get to a Romanesque church devoted to Santiago. Then you could cross
the center where you will find so many services or continue to the left, through the Calle
Pablo Picasso street that will lead you to the Avenida de Galicia avenue. Then you will
have to turn left crossing the highway through an underpass and then cross some roads such
as Los Pelamios and Eladio de la Iglesia. Once you get to Almeiras you could visit the
Iglesia de San Xiao church and continue through the Calle Choeira street to get to Catas
street, that is near to Alverdo airport. When entering Arzobispo Xelmírez street we must
turn to the left through a path that will take us directly to the industrial zone.
After crossing A Xira bridge over the Valiñas river you will get to Cambre, to Souto and
Sobrecarreira, where the Iglesia de Santiago de Sigrás is located. This church was rebuilt
many times since the 15 century. In the old times there was a pilgrims hospital here.
After resting for a while you will continue through forest paths up to the road DP-1702.
Before getting to Carral you will see two country houses: Drozo and Anceis. The first one
is on the left side of the way and is one of the oldest building in the village. You can
also see the Fuente de San Antón de Abad fountain. After a few meters you will see another
country house that has two names Anceis or do Conde, it is from the 18 century and
nowadays belongs to Amancio Ortega. You will leave the asphalted road to get to Carral in
Lameira and then you will go through Corpo Santo, Segurde and Cañás. You will find here a
bakery where you could buy the typical and famous bread of this area.
Then you will get to San Xián de Segude where is located a new hostel, after crossing this
hostel you will get to the Brexa river. After crossing the river you will have to turn
right through a path that will lead you to O Penedo and A Atalaia where you will cross the
AC-106, a little bit after you will get to Abegond, to Aquelabanda where the Capilla de
San Juan chapel is located. Now it comes a walk up to get to Alto de Peito. Once you get
there you will enjoy the amazing views of A Coruña, Ferrol and Mugardos. Once at the top,
at the crossroad with the AC-542 road, we enter some fields to find again the road in As
Travesas village. You will have to continue to get to Casa Avelina the last establishment
before getting to Mesón do Vento. Finally you say goodbye to the national road to walk the
last kilometers through a rural path.
