What to see

Castillo del cardenal

The Cardinal’s Castle was erected during the second half of the 18th century, and although it was designed by Lana Ferrieri, its construction was finally completed by Francisco Llovet and Carlos Lemaur.

The purpose of this fortification was to protect the Corcubion estuary, since it was located in a strategic place. It had twelve mounted cannons and a capacity of up to 96 people.

In front of it, we find the castle of the Prince in the Ameixenda that, together with the previous one, formed an exceptional pair to achieve the best protection of the villas.

Edificio de José Carrera

The José Carrera Building was built in 1924, reflecting the typical Indian architecture brought by the emigrants back to Galicia. It presents an eclectic style, divided into a central body and two wings. This distribution is due to the fact that, at first, the building housed the Practical School of Arts and Crafts.

The facade that we see today is not the original, since this is the result of the last remodeling of 1967 and currently houses the City Council of Corcubion and other dependencies.

Faro de Cabo de Cee

The Lighthouse of Cabo de Cee was built thanks to the Lighthouse Commission, which in 1847 determined the importance of installing lighting that would favor the arrival of ships to the estuary of Corcubion.

In this sense, it came into operation initially in the year 1860 and after a hiatus, again in 1934.

Iglesia de San Marcos

The Church of San Marcos was begun in the 14th century and can be framed mostly within the Gothic style. However, it also has Romanesque (main chapel and corbels), neo-Gothic (facade) and Baroque (transept) features. Later, in the 18th century, two chapels were added to the main building, the chapels of Socorro and Carmen.

At the same time, the church underwent several modifications and rebuildings. In this regard, the attack of the French troops caused a devastating fire that razed the inside of the building. Also, years later, the bell tower along with the roof and facade were damaged by three lightning strikes, causing significant deterioration.

Iglesia de San Pedro

The Church of San Pedro was built in the 13th century. Located in an idyllic setting, it stands out for the simplicity of its facade, which has a pentagonal outline and semicircular arch.

It has a Romanesque style and consists of a main nave and two chapels, both rectangular and gabled tile roof. Inside, there are several altarpieces with images such as St. Peter, the Virgin of Carmen, the Virgin of Mercy and a carving of the Virgin of the Rosary and St. John the Baptist.

The Pazo of the Counts of Altamira was built by the nobles themselves in 1430 after establishing the capital of the jurisdiction in Corcubión. It was their residence at that time and is currently a private home.

It underwent several renovations until reaching the current building; there was a time when it was installed defensive towers that were demolished in the rebuilding of the seventeenth century.
