What to see

Pazo de Cotón

The Pazo de Cotón was built between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries and is currently in a good state of preservation. It has a square floor plan and shares one of its walls with the adjoining building. There are two entrances, one through the main door and the second, to access the main floor, by a stone staircase with a beautiful granite balustrade inspired by the Gothic style of Compostela. This style is also reflected in the two balconies, one on the facade and the other on the side.

Museo Fundación Fernando Blanco

Fernando Blanco de Lema is a famous and beloved character in the town of Cee for having founded two schools at the end of the 19th century and thus favoring the economic and social development of the town.

The museum-foundation building was formerly the Girls’ School, erected by the Fernando Blanco Foundation on the former home of the patron. Inside its rooms, 19th-century teaching materials are on display along with musical instruments and works of art.

With the creation of this exhibition we wanted to make known the life of D. Fernando Blanco de Lema while disseminating the educational past of the town in recent centuries, for being a pioneer in caring for education and science.

Iglesia de Santa María de Xunqueira

The Church of Santa María de Xunqueira is a beautiful temple of seafaring Gothic style dating from the sixteenth century. Legend has it that the Virgin of Xunqueira appeared in some reed beds in the place where her sanctuary was later erected.

It was rebuilt in the 19th century due to the deterioration suffered during the War of Independence against the French, but the main chapel, its vault and the pointed arch are preserved from its original structure.

Ermita San Pedro Mártir

The Hermitage of San Pedro el Mártir is located at the entrance of the village of Cee, on the hill of San Pedro. It is known that by the year 1741 it was still inhabited by a hermit with his possessions and animals. We also know that there was a nearby building that was destroyed by the French troops but the exact date of its construction is unknown.

Next to it, we find a cruceiro, some tendejones and a fountain that is said to have curative waters for rheumatism and foot pains.

Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Cee stands out for the high quality of seafood, although in general this is the case in the vast majority of municipalities of the “Costa da Morte”. Traditional recipes such as Galician octopus or also known as “a feira”, the caldeiradas of skate, conger eel or haddock, sea bass and sea bream baked, grilled sardines, etc. stand out. Leaving seafood products aside, meats are also important, giving rise to typical Galician dishes such as lacón con grelos, cocido (stew) and callos (tripe), among others.
