After an approximately 60-minute journey, we will arrive in the city of A Coruña. Our visit will begin at the Tower of Hercules, the world’s oldest Roman lighthouse still in operation, along with its surrounding area. Those who wish may climb to its viewpoint and enjoy the spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean.
We will then start our walking tour of A Coruña, exploring the monuments and streets surrounding the central María Pita Square, including St. George’s Church, Santiago Church, the San Carlos Garden and Viewpoint, and Riazor Beach, among other highlights.
After approximately one and a half hours of free time for lunch, we will continue to Betanzos. This historic town in the province of A Coruña is also known as the “Betanzos of the Knights”, as it was one of the seven provincial capitals of the former Kingdom of Galicia. Its old town has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site.
Considered the capital of Galician Gothic architecture, Betanzos boasts one of the best-preserved historic centers in Galicia. Among its most notable monuments are the Gothic Church of Santa María do Azogue, Santiago Church, and San Francisco Church, among others. In addition to its architectural heritage, you will also have the opportunity to taste a portion of the famous Betanzos-style Spanish omelette, often referred to as “the best omelette in Spain.” Finally, we will return to Santiago de Compostela, bringing to an end a wonderful day exploring two of Galicia’s most beautiful cities.
