This way we will keep our\n      feet protected from inclement weather and also we will wear them well\n      fastened, so it will be easier to cross all kinds of surfaces without any\n      concern.\n    <\/li>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Trekking shoes:<\/strong> Perfect for the\n      <strong>warmer seasons<\/strong> (spring and summer). They do not offer the\n      same protection as hiking boots, but in exchange they give us greater\n      freedom of movement and the possibility of keeping our feet cooler.\n    <\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <h3>SOCKS MATTER TOO<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    We know that this won&#8217;t come as a surprise either, as we have repeated it ad\n    nauseam, but we know for a fact that socks can be<strong>\n      the main cause of the feared blisters,<\/strong\n    >as they are the first layer and the only one that is in direct contact with\n    our feet.\n  <\/p>\n  <h4>Anti-blister socks<\/h4>\n  <p>\n    To avoid the growth of fungus and blisters, we recommend carrying two or\n    three pairs of anti-blister socks or <strong>CoolMax socks<\/strong> in your\n    backpack so that you can exchange them as soon as they start to get damp.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3>WE MUST HAVE A SMALL FIRST AID KIT<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    It is important to have a first aid kit with basic foot care items such as\n    these:\n  <\/p>\n  <ul>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Alcohol<\/strong> or any other disinfecting agent (Antiseptic)\n    <\/li>\n    <li><strong>Gauze<\/strong> for any kind of bandage in case of injury<\/li>\n    <li>Foot moisturising <strong>cream<\/strong><\/li>\n    <li>Wound <strong>ointment<\/strong><\/li>\n    <li>Suture <strong>needle<\/strong> (in case of large blisters)<\/li>\n    <li><strong>Vaseline<\/strong><\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <h3>CORRECT HYDRATION OF THE FEET<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    It is essential to apply a normal moisturiser after every walk, or any other\n    moisturiser indicated for tiredness or muscle relaxation in this part of the\n    body.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3>TAKING CARE OF YOUR FEET AFTER EACH STAGE<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    Otherwise we are sure that the next day&#8217;s stage will be a bit more\n    difficult.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    On arrival at the accommodation we will\n    <strong>wash our feet properly<\/strong>, removing any remaining dirt and\n    then dry them thoroughly and apply <strong>moisturising creams<\/strong> or\n    Vaseline, leaving them to dry in the air.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    We also recommend sleeping with bare feet, otherwise we will soften the skin\n    and encourage the appearance of blisters.\n  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"section-post\" id=\"Lesiones\">\n  <h2 id=\"Lesiones\">\n    MOST COMMON INJURIES AND AILMENTS ON THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO: HOW TO TREAT\n    THEM?\n  <\/h2>\n  <p>\n    Below, we will talk about some of the most common injuries that arise among\n    pilgrims who walk the different routes of the Camino.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3 id=\"Ampollas\">BLISTERS<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    Definitely the <strong>most common injury<\/strong> on the Camino de\n    Santiago, and is that unfortunately there are few pilgrims who can claim not\n    to have suffered from them.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    They are caused by excessive friction on the skin, typically as a\n    <strong\n      >result of boots that have been worn for a short period of time<\/strong\n    >\n    or that are <strong>poorly adjusted<\/strong> to the foot when walking.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    All the tips mentioned above will be useful to avoid the appearance of the\n    famous blisters.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    The procedure we will follow to treat them once they have appeared is as\n    follows:\n  <\/p>\n  <ul>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Thoroughly washing the foot<\/strong>: To remove traces of sweat\n      and dirt that appear after a long walk.\n    <\/li>\n    <li>\n      <strong>We disinfect the injured area<\/strong>: With povidone iodine\n      (Betadine).\n    <\/li>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Cut the blister<\/strong>: Cut through the central area and remove\n      the skin covering the blister.\n    <\/li>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Wash the area where the blister is located<\/strong>: With plenty\n      of physiological solution.\n    <\/li>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Let it air-dry<\/strong>: apply plenty of antibiotic ointment and\n      then cover it with gauze and sticking plaster.\n    <\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <p>\n    After this process, daily dressings must be carried out to prevent infection\n    or the appearance of major complications. If this process is carried out,\n    the affected area will be fully recovered in <strong>5 or 6 days<\/strong>.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3 id=\"Esguinces\">SPRAINS AND STRAINS<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    Pilgrims are susceptible to sprains and falls, due to the changes in level,\n    which often result in sprains, generally of a minor nature.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    The <strong>most common symptoms<\/strong> are pain, swelling and inability\n    to continue, depending on the severity of the condition.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    The joint most commonly affected by this type of injury is usually the\n    ankle, specifically the external lateral ligament.\n  <\/p>\n  <h4>If the strain or sprain is mild<\/h4>\n  <p>\n    The pilgrim can continue the Camino applying cold and a functional bandage,\n    always in <strong>prior consultation with a specialist<\/strong>, as this\n    type of bandage can have a reverse effect and end up damaging the affected\n    joint to a greater extent.\n  <\/p>\n  <h4>If the injury is moderate or severe<\/h4>\n  <p>\n    If we suffer from <strong>severe pain<\/strong>, swelling and suspect that\n    the ligaments or joints may be affected, we should\n    <strong>go to a medical centre<\/strong> to have the injury assessed by\n    specialists so that the appropriate measures can be taken to prevent the\n    ailment from getting worse.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    This ailment affects <strong>17% of pilgrims<\/strong> and is difficult to\n    prevent as sprains and strains occur as a result of involuntary acts, even\n    so some <strong>methods to avoid these injuries<\/strong> to a certain extent\n    are:\n  <\/p>\n  <ul>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Wear mid-calf shoes<\/strong>: Sneakers or boots that support the\n      ankle firmly, with a good sole and a system that favours perspiration.\n    <\/li>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Use both trekking poles<\/strong>: They minimise the impact on your\n      joints, and on descents with loose stones they will help you to maintain\n      stability and thus reduce the risk of falling.\n    <\/li>\n    <li>\n      <strong>Warm up well<\/strong>: Every day we should spend about 15 minutes\n      warming up and stretching all the muscles before starting to walk, this\n      will prevent a good number of injuries.\n    <\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n  <h3 id=\"Pie-de-atleta\">TINEA PEDIS (ATHLETE&#8217;S FOOT)<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    It is an affliction caused by the <strong>appearance of fungus<\/strong> on\n    the feet, it is really very annoying as its manifestation is produced by the\n    appearance of <strong>small wounds between the toes<\/strong> causing a lot\n    of itching to those who suffer from it.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    Good hygiene and not exchanging clothes with other partners is key to avoid\n    its occurrence.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    Once they have already manifested themselves we will apply\n    <strong>anti-fungal lotions or creams<\/strong>, although sometimes simply\n    using anti-fungal powders on footwear, socks and any other garment that will\n    come into contact with our feet is enough.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    In the event that the condition occurs as a result of excessive sweating,\n    treatment should be applied to prevent this excessive sweating in order to\n    avoid future occurrences of this ailment.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    The <strong>use of flip-flops<\/strong> is fundamental to avoid the\n    appearance of fungus, always, and when we say always, it is always, we\n    should use rubber sandals to enter any public or shared bathroom.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3 id=\"Hematomas\">ONYCHOCRYPTOSIS AND SUBUNGUAL HAEMATOMAS<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    Onychocryptosis is what is commonly known as\n    <strong>ingrown toenail.<\/strong>\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    To avoid the appearance of such an affliction we should always cut our\n    toenails properly, leaving them straight with a free and wide edge.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    To eliminate this condition, we must\n    <strong>be extremely hygienic<\/strong> in the area and place a small piece\n    of gauze soaked in iodine under the lateral area of the ingrown nail, trying\n    to separate the nail from the flesh to prevent it from continuing to stick\n    while protecting this area from rubbing.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    Subungual haematomas arise as an\n    <strong>accumulation of blood<\/strong> under the nail causing it to turn\n    black.
