In fact, according to\n    statistics, only a small number of pilgrims embark on the Camino in the\n    coldest months of the year.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    Undoubtedly, the most severe weather event you can find is snow and ice.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3>BRIEF HISTORY&#8230;<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    If we turn the clock back to the Templars times, we will find out that\n    <strong>pilgrims<\/strong> in the French Way used to divert south towards the\n    Valdeorras region once they arrived at Ponferrada. They wanted to\n    <strong>avoid the climb to O Cebreiro<\/strong> and escape the damp cold and\n    thick layer of snow that would cover the paths for weeks. That alternative\n    route received the name of Winter Way.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3>UPSIDES<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    This season has some pros, though. Budget-wise, due to the\n    <strong>lower influx of pilgrims<\/strong>, you can expect to spend a little\n    less on accommodation and meals. In addition, keeping these\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilgrim.es\/en\/plan-your-way\/tips-to-start\/\">key tips<\/a> in mind when\n    planning your itinerary, you can counteract the adverse weather.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    In terms of accommodation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilgrim.es\/albergues-camino-de-santiago\/\">public hostels<\/a> remain\n    <strong>open all year round<\/strong> and, on the upside, you will not have\n    any difficulties to find a place. Just be aware that not all of them have\n    heating.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    In case you want to stay in private accommodation,\n    <strong>plan and book in advance<\/strong>, since many of them close during\n    wintertime.\n  <\/p>\n  <h3>KEY POINTS<\/h3>\n  <p>\n    It is important to take the daylight hours into consideration, which are\n    reduced considerably in winter. Temperatures are mild, although there could be some odd\n    showers.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    On the upside, <strong>the influx of pilgrims decreases<\/strong> a little\n    compared to the central months of the year, although you will still have the\n    chance to meet other people, avoiding, at the same time, the solitude of the\n    winter months.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>\n    Moreover,\n    <strong\n      >finding accommodation in public hostels will not be a problem<\/strong\n    >\n    and, if you opt for the private ones, they will still be open too.\n  <\/p>\n  <p>For these seasons, we <strong>recommend the following<\/strong>:<\/p>\n  <ul>\n    <li><strong>Primitive Way<\/strong> (autumn)<\/li>\n    <li><strong>French Way<\/strong> (spring)<\/li>\n    <li>\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilgrim.es\/en\/english-way\/\">English Way:<\/a> this route is gaining more and\n      more popularity, mainly because of its natural resources and because its\n      course is rather short.
