This is the most direct way to reach the town. The most advisable is to arrive in Merida and then depart to Zafra, since it is the nearest city that has all the possible public transport.\n\n<p>By the same road in reverse direction is also reached quickly from Seville, although this journey is also possible by public transport, thanks to a railway line that connects the two cities. Its strategic position, between the kingdoms of Seville and Badajoz, motivated its construction, locating later in its upper part a chapel. This temple of great devotion is known as the Cristo de la Humildad y la Paciencia (Christ of Humility and Patience), dedicated to the Virgen de la Caridad (Virgin of Charity). The arch was added later, specifically in the late seventeenth century, being in it represented the image of Santiago Matamoros, showing once again the close historical ties of this municipality with the Order of Santiago. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pilgrim.es\/web\/caminos\/via-de-la-plata\/pueblos\/zafra\/puntos-de-interes\/arco-del-cubo.jpg\" alt=\"Arco del Cubo\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__accordion-content inactive\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Arquillo del Pan<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Situated in the southeast corner of the Plaza Grande and Plaza Chica, it is known as Arquillo del Pan, because there was a historic bread store. The structure itself is formed by a corridor in which stands the altarpiece of San Blas de Escobar, where the image of the Virgen de la Esperancita de Zafra is also venerated.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pilgrim.es\/web\/caminos\/via-de-la-plata\/pueblos\/zafra\/puntos-de-interes\/arquillo-del-pan.jpg\" alt=\"Arquillo del Pan\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__accordion-content inactive\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Casa del Aj\u00edmez<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This house is located in Boticas de Zafra street and currently houses the Interpretation Center &#8220;Las Voces de la Ciudad&#8221; (Voices of the City). <\/p>\n\n<p>This building has a great uniqueness, since the fifteenth century housed a variety of drugs from the apothecaries of the town, ready to be mixed with the help of distillers and crushers. Thanks to these mixtures, medicines and drugs were made to alleviate the sick people of this town.\n\n<p>Between the 17th and 18th centuries, the building continued to serve the function of making medicinal preparations. However, over the years it served for the realization of many other activities, until it reached a great deterioration of its entire structure.<\/p> <p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pilgrim.es\/web\/caminos\/via-de-la-plata\/pueblos\/zafra\/puntos-de-interes\/casa-del-ajimez.jpg\" alt=\"Casa del Aj\u00edmez\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__accordion-content inactive\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Colegiata de la Candelaria<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Collegiate Church of Candelaria was built during the sixteenth century by order of the third Count of Feria, in order to replace the old Christian center that was located in the Plaza Grande. <\/p>\n\n<p>It is composed of a single nave, chapels in the buttresses and a raised choir. The space is distributed around several courtyards of the sixteenth century, among which stands out one that houses Hispano-Muslim and Christian ornamentation. It has Gothic decoration among which stands out the face of a man between the spouts, a vase with lilies above that face and small but numerous animal heads. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pilgrim.es\/web\/caminos\/via-de-la-plata\/pueblos\/zafra\/puntos-de-interes\/pilar-del-duque.jpg\" alt=\"Pilar del Duque\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__accordion-content inactive\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h4>Hospital del Santiago<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Hospital de Santiago was created around 1438 by Lorenzo II Suarez and Maria Manuel, this being the first stately building in the municipality. Aesthetically, the predominant style is Mudejar, with the chapel occupying the northern part.\n\n<p>Its facade shows an abundant ornamentation that combines elements of Mudejar style with others belonging to the late Gothic style. It is a building of Latin cross plan built entirely of brick, except for the doors, windows and baseboards. Of its interior it is possible to emphasize the carving that represents the own Margaret Harrington and that forms part of its sepulcher, as well as the main altarpiece of baroque classicist style. Later, during the 17th century, the western cloister was built, which is currently in ruins.
