It is not a question of discouraging you, just warning you,\n          because\n          <strong>although we will find infinity of positive things<\/strong>\n          in doing the Way with our best friend, we will also live unfavorable situations that we\n          will have to learn to manage, forming a team with our faithful companion.\n        <\/p>\n      <\/section>\n      <section>\n        <h2 id=\"Antes\">Before starting the Camino de Santiago<\/h2>\n        <p>\n          Before we start walking we must know certain things regarding preparation, how to get to\n          Sarria, etc.\n        <\/p>\n        <h3 class=\"mt-3\">Physical training<\/h3>\n        <p>\n          You will need a good physical preparation but our hairy friend also\n          <strong>needs a good preparation<\/strong>\n          . Although there are still people who believe that the animal does not suffer, gets tired,\n          has shoelaces, etc.. We know for a fact that the Camino will be as hard for them as it is\n          for us.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          A couple of months before starting the Camino de Santiago,\n          <strong>we recommend taking the dog for long walks<\/strong>\n          to get him used to doing exercise.\n        <\/p>\n        <h4 class=\"mt-3\" id=\"Preparacion\">Example of preparation<\/h4>\n        <ul>\n          <li>\n            Leave\n            <strong>early in the morning<\/strong>\n            to walk at a fast pace for an hour or so, in which we will travel about 7 km.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            Again,\n            <strong>late in the afternoon<\/strong>\n            , do 2 more hours, at a good pace. During this time, you can travel about 15 kilometers.\n            In this way, at the end of the day, the dog will have done more than 20 kilometers.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            You will\n            <strong>have to go through dirt, stone or road tracks<\/strong>\n            in order to harden your pads as much as possible. However, there are also products that\n            we can apply to your legs to help them harden and avoid injuries and bruises.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Worm the animal inside and out<\/strong>\n            ; inside with an anti-parasite tablet and outside with an anti-flea pipette and ticks,\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            Wear a\n            <strong>water resistant tick collar<\/strong>\n            during the stages. We will cross wooded areas where these harmful beings abound for our\n            animal. In addition, we may meet other dogs along the Way and they are tick owners.\n          <\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n        <h3 class=\"mt-3\" id=\"Mochila\">Backpack preparation<\/h3>\n        <p>\n          Previously, in another post, we talked about\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilgrim.es\/que-llevo-en-la-mochila-para-hacer-el-camino-de-santiago\/\">what to carry in the backpack<\/a>\n          during the Camino de Santiago, however, now we have the factor of carrying in it what is\n          necessary for our pet.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          What we still don&#8217;t know is what we need to bring to make the experience more enjoyable\n          for our four-legged friend.\n        <\/p>\n        <h4 class=\"mt-3\">General object list<\/h4>\n        <ul>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Documentation of the animal:<\/strong>\n            <ul>\n              <li>\n                Veterinary health certificate and document accrediting anti-rabies vaccination.\n              <\/li>\n              <li>Certificate of identification with microchip and vaccination card<\/li>\n            <\/ul>\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Harness and leash<\/strong>\n            : We recommend this accessory because the collar can end up damaging our dog if he has\n            to be tied for a long time. Another good alternative is to get a\n            <em>canicross<\/em>\n            (a contraption to carry our pet tied to the hip).\n          <\/li>\n          <li><strong>Dog raincoat.<\/strong><\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Quick drying towel<\/strong>\n            : It is recommended to bring a specific towel for the animal.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Foldable drinker<\/strong>\n            : Made of waterproof fabric, very useful for its reduced size and weight.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Food<\/strong>\n            : We recommend carrying about two kilos of feed (preferably top-of-the-range)\n            distributed in sachets of ration.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Feeder<\/strong>\n            : To mix feed with other foods.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Stool bags<\/strong>\n            : We must think that we will not only cross mountains and rural areas, but we will also\n            walk along urban centers and above all we must be responsible with the acts of our pets.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Dog footwear<\/strong>\n            : To protect our dog&#8217;s pads.\n          <\/li>\n          <li><strong>Cream for pads.<\/strong><\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Mat<\/strong>\n            : In case our pet has to spend some night in the open air.\n          <\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n        <h3 class=\"mt-3\" id=\"Credencial-Canina\">Dog Credential<\/h3>\n        <p>\n          Since the beginning of 2018, dogs that make the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, can\n          get, like its owner,\n          <strong>the Perregrina or Compostela Dog<\/strong>\n          .\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          This initiative is carried out by the\n          <a\n            href=\"https:\/\/apaca.protecms.com\/articulo\/538-httpapacaprotecmscomuploadspasaporte20canino20de20hacer20el20camino202pdf\"\n            rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"\n            target=\"_blank\"\n          >\n            Asociaci\u00f3n Protectora de Animais do Cami\u00f1o\n          <\/a>\n          (\n          <strong>APACA<\/strong>\n          ) in order to satisfy the multitudes of requests from pilgrims who make the Way of St.\n          James accompanied by their pets and thus, raise awareness to hostels that facilitate\n          access to their pets.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          Although the credential\n          <strong>does not have an official character<\/strong>\n          because it does not have the seal of the Catholic Church, it is a great step to sensitize\n          pilgrims to the abandonment of animals and their mistreatment on the Jacobean routes.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          Its operation is the same as\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilgrim.es\/en\/plan-your-way\/pilgrims-accreditation\/\">the conventional Pilgrim&#8217;s Credential<\/a>\n          , it must be stamped during the route and finally in Santiago,\n          <strong>deliver the document in R\/ Fonti\u00f1as 27<\/strong>\n          , at the entrance of the city by the French Way.\n        <\/p>\n        <div class=\"row align-items-center mt-4\">\n          <div class=\"col-md-7\">\n            <h4 class=\"mt-3\">How much does it cost and where to get it?<\/h4>\n            <p>The price of the Dog Credential and the Perregrina is 3 \u20ac.<\/p>\n            <p>If you buy the pack, Credential + Compostela Dog, is 5 \u20ac.<\/p>\n            <p><strong>In Galicia:<\/strong><\/p>\n            <ul>\n              <li>\n                In the APACA store, in Santiago de Compostela, (R\u00faa Fonti\u00f1as 27)\n                <strong>Every Way.<\/strong>\n              <\/li>\n              <li>\n                Ecoespazo Vitriol, in Sarria.\n                <strong>Camino Franc\u00e9s<\/strong>\n              <\/li>\n              <li>\n                San L\u00e1zaro Hostel in Sarria.\n                <strong>Camino Franc\u00e9s<\/strong>\n              <\/li>\n              <li>\n                Lucana Shop, in A Coru\u00f1a.\n                <strong>Camino Ingl\u00e9s<\/strong>\n              <\/li>\n              <li>\n                Le Crepe da P\u00eda. The only existing conditions are that it is tied up and if it\n            weighs more than 10 kilos that it takes muzzle, another positive point of this means of\n            transport is that your pet travels for free.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Medium\/long distance, AVE, etc.:<\/strong>\n            Only dogs weighing less than 10 kilos may travel on one of these trains, always within a\n            carrier of dimensions 60x35x35 cm, which we must carry. In addition, in most trains, we\n            must pay a supplement to take our pet.\n          <\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n        <p>\n          On the\n          <a href=\"http:\/\/www.renfe.com\/viajeros\/info\/animales.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">Renfe<\/a>\n          website we will find all the necessary information about the conditions that travelling\n          with a pet is going to entail for us.\n        <\/p>\n        <h4 class=\"mt-3\">By bus<\/h4>\n        <p>\n          With the exception of the guide dogs, the law establishes that the animals will have to\n          travel\n          <strong>in warehouse inside a carrier<\/strong>\n          , this solution does not seem to us very suitable because our dog will travel between\n          suitcases and next to the noisy motor of the bus.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          Imagine putting yourself in their situation, not going in a seat with all the comforts,\n          and also receiving blows from the luggage of other passengers and with a shocking noise\n          throughout the journey.\n        <\/p>\n        <h4 class=\"mt-3\">By plane<\/h4>\n        <p>\n          In low cost companies traveling with a dog\n          <strong>is usually forbidden<\/strong>\n          in any way.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          In the rest of the company the &#8220;mini&#8221; dogs can travel in the cabin within a carrier\n          (maximum 8 kilos and with prior authorization) and the rest of the dogs can travel in the\n          hold, charging a supplement of the ticket.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          The conditions in which dogs travel in the hold are not as bad as they used to be, since\n          these compartments are separated from the rest of the luggage and are correctly\n          acclimatized, without noise or other traumatic effects for pets.\n        <\/p>\n        <h4 class=\"mt-3\">By car<\/h4>\n        <p>\n          Undoubtedly,\n          <strong>the most comfortable solution<\/strong>\n          in terms of organization is to use our private car to get to the beginning of our Camino.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          If we do not have this option, we can always\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pilgrim.es\/en\/services\/car-rental\/\">rent a vehicle<\/a>\n          or hire a trip through Uber, some of the drivers offer the possibility of traveling with\n          pets, so it may be the most recommended alternative if we do not manage our trip by public\n          transport.\n        <\/p>\n        <h2>Accommodations between Sarria and Santiago that admit pets<\/h2>\n        <p>\n          It is very important to plan well the places where we are going to spend the night, since\n          not everyone admits our four-legged companions.\n        <\/p>\n        <h3 class=\"mt-3\" id=\"Alojamientos\">List of accommodations<\/h3>\n        <ul>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Sarria<\/strong>\n            : At the beginning of the Camino we have these accommodations available: DP Cristal\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Portomar\u00edn:<\/strong>\n            At the end of the first stage we could sleep at the hostel El Caminante.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Palas de Rei:<\/strong>\n            After the second stage we could enjoy a nice night at guesthouse Maite.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Arz\u00faa<\/strong>\n            : Pilgrims&#8217; hostel Milky Way.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>O Pedrouzo:<\/strong>\n            Relax at the guesthouse Codesal.\n          <\/li>\n          <li>\n            <strong>Santiago de Compostela:<\/strong>\n            After finishing the Camino we are sure that they will need to rest more than ever, and\n            we believe that the Hotel A Tafona do Peregrino is the best option\n          <\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n        <p>\n          It is an orientation that is open to availability of accommodation and modification of\n          prices by seasons, if you want help booking accommodation do not hesitate to contact us\n          through our email\n          <a href=\"mailto:info@pilgrim.es\" rel=\"nofollow\">info@pilgrim.es<\/a>\n        <\/p>\n      <\/section>\n      <section>\n        <h2 id=\"Durante\">During the Camino&#8230;<\/h2>\n        <p>\n          Once on the road, if our pet is well prepared physically and equipment level, we are sure\n          that he will wake up every day happy to continue the adventure with its owner, but we must\n          take into account certain elements to avoid setbacks.\n        <\/p>\n        <h3 class=\"mt-3\" id=\"Suelto\">Loose or on a leash?<\/h3>\n        <p>\n          Surely, this doubt assails us in many moments along our walk, we cannot generalize in this\n          subject since each situation and each animal requires of a different behavior.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          It is not recommended either one end or the other,\n          <strong>we should not tie or let our pet loose all the time<\/strong>\n          .\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          Along the Camino de Santiago, we will find areas in which we can let our dog run free\n          without any danger, while in certain sections in which we will travel along the shoulders\n          of roads, we must tie it in short and control it.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          Another issue to take into account is the\n          <strong>process of adaptation to the distances<\/strong>\n          of the stages, we must prevent it from exhausting its energies too quickly at each stage.\n        <\/p>\n        <p>\n          The first few days we must\n          <strong>tie him more assiduously<\/strong>\n          because the animal can start running without control and get tired too soon, we must bear\n          in mind that he does not know how much distance we are going to travel, with the passage\n          of days, we will realize that he himself will dose his energies.\n        <\/p>\n        <h3 class=\"mt-3\" id=\"Comida\">Food<\/h3>\n        <p>\n          The best thing is to try to change the diet of our animals as little as possible.
