His father was Zebedee, a Jewish fisherman that used to fish on the Galilea River.\n\t\t\t\t\tHe had another brother, John the Evangelist<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>Once there were James and John and two brothers called Andrew and Peter fishing in the Lake of Gennesaret and\n\t\t\t\t\tJesus appear to recruit them as the first disciples, then they became his closest friends.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>We should highlight that St. James the Great took <strong>part and witnessed some of the most important moments\n\t\t\t\t\t\tin the Christian history<\/strong> such as the Transfiguration of Jesus that took place on Mount Tabor; the\n\t\t\t\t\tresurrection of Jesus and also the apparition on the Tiberias River.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/section>\n\n\t\t\t<section id=\"death\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2>After messiah\u2019s death<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p>Once the Messiah died, St. James and other disciples decided to start an evangelization in Gallaecia, the current\n\t\t\t\t\tGalicia. This was not the last time that St James visited Galicia.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>Due to the limited success in Ulla area, he returned to Jerusalem where he was executed in 44 BC, just after some\n\t\t\t\t\tChristian persecutions ordered by Herod Agrippa. St. James was the first apostle who died <strong>because of the\n\t\t\t\t\t\tChristian faith.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>The emperor told apostles that they couldn\u2019t bury<strong>St. James so they decided to escape with his mortal\n\t\t\t\t\t\tremains to Galicia,<\/strong> to Iria Flava. They bury his body in a forest called Liberum Donum. It is here\n\t\t\t\t\twhere the Jacobean legend and legacy is born.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/section>\n\n\t\t\t<section id=\"sepulchre\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2>Grave\u2019s discovery<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p>Many years after a hermit called Pelayo saw many moving stars in the sky. He decided to follow them and he\n\t\t\t\t\tentered a forest where he found a marble grave and also an altar.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>He told everyone about his finding and <strong>when King Alfonso II<\/strong> hear about it he decided to travel\n\t\t\t\t\tthere to verify that there were St James\u2019 mortal remains. Then he named St. James patron saint of Spain and he\n\t\t\t\t\talso ordered to build a great temple in the same area. <strong>The term Compostela<\/strong> <i>campus\n\t\t\t\t\t\tstellae<\/i>: field of the star or field of stars<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>It was created a military order with the same name that was in charge of protecting pilgrims that wanted to\n\t\t\t\t\ttravel to<strong>Compostela<\/strong> to honor the saint and also to stop Muslim invasions.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/section>\n\n\t\t\t<section id=\"pilgrimages-beginnings\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2>Pilgrim start walking<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p>From this moment, lots of people from all over the world decided to follow the old Roman roads to walk to St.\n\t\t\t\t\tJames\u2019 grave.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>There is a great controversy about the authenticity of the mortal remains. It is a fact that they have to move\n\t\t\t\t\tthe mortal remains many times; once they had to move them because of the pirates\u2019 <strong>threat in the 16\n\t\t\t\t\t\tcentury.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>At the end, they decided to build a little cubicle on the main altar to hide the mortal remains. <strong>The\n\t\t\t\t\t\tmortal remains were missing for a long time<\/strong>, then in 1884 were rediscovered.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>St. James History of the Camino de Santiago The Codex Calixtinus St James.
