His father was Zebedee, a Jewish fisherman that used to fish\n          on the Galilea River. He had another brother, John the Evangelist\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Once there were James and John and two brothers called Andrew and Peter fishing in the\n          Lake of Gennesaret and Jesus appear to recruit them as the first disciples, then they\n          became his closest friends.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          We should highlight that St. James the Great took\n          <strong>\n            part and witnessed some of the most important moments in the Christian history\n          <\/strong>\n          such as the Transfiguration of Jesus that took place on Mount Tabor; the resurrection of\n          Jesus and also the apparition on the Tiberias River.\n        <\/p>\n      <\/section>\n\n      <section id=\"death\">\n        <h2>After messiah\u2019s death<\/h2>\n\n        <p>\n          Once the Messiah died, St. James and other disciples decided to start an evangelization in\n          Gallaecia, the current Galicia. This was not the last time that St James visited Galicia.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Due to the limited success in Ulla area, he returned to Jerusalem where he was executed in\n          44 BC, just after some Christian persecutions ordered by Herod Agrippa. St. James was the\n          first apostle who died\n          <strong>because of the Christian faith.<\/strong>\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          The emperor told apostles that they couldn\u2019t bury\n          <strong>St. James so they decided to escape with his mortal remains to Galicia,<\/strong>\n          to Iria Flava. They bury his body in a forest called Liberum Donum. It is here where the\n          Jacobean legend and legacy is born.\n        <\/p>\n      <\/section>\n\n      <section id=\"sepulchre\">\n        <h2>Grave\u2019s discovery<\/h2>\n\n        <p>\n          Many years after a hermit called Pelayo saw many moving stars in the sky. He decided to\n          follow them and he entered a forest where he found a marble grave and also an altar.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          He told everyone about his finding and\n          <strong>when King Alfonso II<\/strong>\n          hear about it he decided to travel there to verify that there were St James\u2019 mortal\n          remains. Then he named St. James patron saint of Spain and he also ordered to build a\n          great temple in the same area.\n          <strong>The term Compostela<\/strong>\n          <i>campus stellae<\/i>\n          : field of the star or field of stars\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          It was created a military order with the same name that was in charge of protecting\n          pilgrims that wanted to travel to\n          <strong>Compostela<\/strong>\n          to honor the saint and also to stop Muslim invasions.\n        <\/p>\n      <\/section>\n\n      <section id=\"pilgrimages-beginnings\">\n        <h2>Pilgrim start walking<\/h2>\n\n        <p>\n          From this moment, lots of people from all over the world decided to follow the old Roman\n          roads to walk to St. James\u2019 grave.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          There is a great controversy about the authenticity of the mortal remains. It is a fact\n          that they have to move the mortal remains many times; once they had to move them because\n          of the pirates\u2019\n          <strong>threat in the 16 century.<\/strong>\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          At the end, they decided to build a little cubicle on the main altar to hide the mortal\n          remains.\n          <strong>The mortal remains were missing for a long time<\/strong>\n          , then in 1884 were rediscovered.\n        <\/p>\n      <\/section>\n    <\/section>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>St. James History of the Camino de Santiago The Codex Calixtinus St James.
