stage<\/h3>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\n\t\t\t<p>Saint Jean Pied de Port is the second most popular starting point for pilgrims on their\n\t\t\t\tjourney. This ancient walled town, surrounded by majestic mountains, is where the\n\t\t\t\tdifferent variants of the French Way that run through the south of France converge. This\n\t\t\t\tstage is both tough and spectacular like no other. Along the main route, known as the\n\t\t\t\tNapoleon Route, we cross the Pyrenees and climb up to the 1,430 metres of the Lepoeder\n\t\t\t\tpass; we then descend through a fascinating beech forest to Roncesvalles, at an altitude\n\t\t\t\tof 945 metres.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"recomendation-card\">\n\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<i class=\"icon-logo-pilgrim\"><\/i>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5>Recommendation Pilgrim<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>As mentioned, this is one of the hardest stages along the Way so please take as many precautions as\n\t\t\t\t\tpossible. If you are not fit as a fiddle or if you have any mobility problems, we highly recommend\n\t\t\t\t\tyou to take the Valcarlos diversion. Its pavement road will directly lead you to Roncesvalles\n\t\t\t\t\tavoiding any suffering caused by the slopes<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<p>This advice is also for those who ride on a bike as they will have to burden it due to the steep\n\t\t\t\t\tslopes. The ones who has chosen this alternative must bear in mind that a high percentage of the\n\t\t\t\t\troute will be ridden on the roadside ( N-135), so all feasible precautions must be taken to avoid\n\t\t\t\t\tany accident. Cyclists should be careful when descending Bentarneta Mountain. After crossing the river Nive we come out\n\t\t\t\t\tonto the Rue d&#8217;Espagne, cross the Porte d&#8217;Espagne and continue straight ahead to take a\n\t\t\t\t\tlocal road on the right that climbs steeply uphill, signposted &#8220;Route de Napoleon&#8221;. This\n\t\t\t\t\troute takes its name from the fact that it was the passage of Napoleon&#8217;s troops in the\n\t\t\t\t\tinvasion of Spain, which also coincides with the Via Aquitaine, the ancient Roman road\n\t\t\t\t\tfrom Bordeaux to Astorga.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t<a class=\"town-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pilgrim.es\/en\/french-way\/saint-jean-pied-de-port\/\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"town-link__link-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"town-link__link-content__text\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Local Information<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Police, Medical Care, What to See, Where to Eat&#8230;<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"town-link__link-content__town-btn\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<i class=\"icon-arrow\"><\/i>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<hr \/>\n\n\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t<h4>Km 5 &#8231; Honto<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t<p>At the exit of Honto we take a shortcut on the left hand side that avoids a big bend in the\n\t\t\t\t\troad. We return to it and follow it for about fifteen minutes.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<hr \/>\n\n\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t<h4>Km 7,6 &#8231; Orisson<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t<p>We continue along the same road surrounded by a beautiful landscape of alpine\n\t\t\t\t\tmeadows. Four kilometres further on we see the Virgin of Biakorri on the left, resting on a\n\t\t\t\t\trock. We leave it on the right and continue straight on along the same road. After 2\n\t\t\t\t\tkilometres we leave the road and follow a path on the right hand side, passing by the\n\t\t\t\t\tUrdanarre cross.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<hr \/>\n\n\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t<h4>Km 16,2 &#8231; Collado de Bentartea<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t<p>We leave the Rold\u00e1n fountain on the left and follow a track through a beech forest until\n\t\t\t\t\twe reach the stone cairn that marks the entrance to Navarre. Then, on the right, we take\n\t\t\t\t\tthe track that takes us to the Lepoeder pass. If visibility is good, we will be able to see\n\t\t\t\t\tthe small village of Roncesvalles.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<hr \/>\n\n\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t<h4>Km 20,2 &#8231; Collado de Lepoeder<\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t<p>There are two possible routes to go down to Roncesvalles: either through an impressive\n\t\t\t\t\tbeech forest, descending steeply down the right-hand side of the road and then taking the\n\t\t\t\t\tpath that goes off to the left, crossing the same road a few metres further on, or the\n\t\t\t\t\tsecond option, which turns off at the Alto de Iba\u00f1eta; we can either follow the road or go\n\t\t\t\t\tdirectly along the path that goes down the right-hand side of the road to the Alto de\n\t\t\t\t\tIba\u00f1eta, from where we complete the descent by following a path on the left-hand side of\n\t\t\t\t\tthe national road.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<hr \/>\n\n\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t<h4>Km 24,2 &#8231;
